Crystal Bar, Sheffield
Client: The Brook Group
Project: Crystal Bar
The brief was to create a sophisticated, contemporary restaurant and bar located in the centre of Sheffield, providing a unique atmosphere and ambience.
The existing courtyard buildings are mid-19th Century Grade II listed workshops, with interiors typical of the specialised, small scale workshops characteristic of Sheffield.
The design of the completely glazed infill to the courtyard buildings enabled the client to operate a ground floor contemporary bar, whilst the upper floor conversions of the existing buildings created separate cocktail bars and restaurants.
The courtyard buildings, both 2 and 3-storey, are constructed in brick, which have been exposed internally with all of the original oak roof trusses being retained with new solid hardwood flooring and a hard landscaped central courtyard.
Working very closely with English Heritage and Planning, Conservation and Building Control officers, we were able to sympathetically restore and transform the interiors to create the desired effects.
