Halifax General Hospital
Project: Halifax General Hospital PFI Project
Client: Calderdale and Huddersfield NHSTrust
Calderdale Royal Hospital in Halifax was redeveloped as a Private Finance Initiative project. Self Architects designed the alterations and refurbishment of several of the existing Victorian buildings.
Block 1 was the original hospital entrance lodge. This entrance has been converted to the goods entrance and the lodge converted to offices.
Block 3 was a three storey ward block. One of the wards has been refurbished to provide additional emergency beds. The other floors have been converted to offices, staff changing facilities and a hospital linen storage facility. The refurbishment included external stone cleaning, new internal finishes, electrical and mechanical services and lift car.
Block 22 was previously used for offices. It was converted to patient consultation areas on the ground floor with Doctors On-call and Nurses Rooms on the upper floors.
A Victorian style covered way was added over an existing bridge link to adjoining buildings.
The building was completely refurbished including all finishes and services. En-suite facilities were added to all the new bedrooms. External stonework was cleaned and rainwater goods and wastes overhauled.
