Kings Mill Hospital, Sutton in Ashfield

Client:  Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Project:  Conversion of Boiler House, King’s Mill Hospital

Location:  Sutton-in-Ashfield

Self Architects were appointed as architectural consultant onto Sherwood Forest Hospital's capital framework agreement in 2011 and have been appointed on several capital development schemes, including provision of ‘Same Sex’ Accommodation Facilities at Newark Hospital and the conversion of 2 no. redundant 24-bed wards into offices for hospital administration.

We were also commissioned to carry out a detailed feasibility study to provide dedicated offices for the Chief Executive, Boardroom, Meeting Rooms and associated administration and reception area by sustainably converting the non-redundant existing boiler house, which due to its existing massing, could be adapted to insert several floor levels.

Self Architects also designed a new contemporary 3-storey entrance area extension which incorporated full height glazing to front and side elevations and the insertion of dormer balconies within the roof.  This £3m scheme transforms this iconic boiler house into flexible administrative accommodation for the 21st Century.
