Marsden House, Leeds
Project: Marsden House Amenity Space
Marsden House is a purpose-built student accommodation block comprising of 981 beds located close to Leeds City Centre and the City Campus of Leeds Beckett University. In addition to the accommodation, there were a number of communal areas including a health club with gymnasium, swimming pool (which was closed), steam room, sauna and changing facilities.
The aim was to enhance the communal facilities through providing new amenity spaces within the existing (non-accommodation) spaces.
We took inspiration from the diversity of the city of Leeds and its industrial heritage. Leeds is a major cultural centre for the North of England and we wanted to draw from these aspects when designing the amenity space using materials, fabrics and lighting to reflect these qualities.
We wanted to create a striking interior with lots of different areas for both socialising and study.
We designed lounges, study areas, work pods, refreshment areas, cinema and entertainment areas, games pods, table tennis, pool and table football areas. We included a new gymnasium and toilets and remodeled the laundry area.
