Mattersey Hall Bible College
Project: Teaching and Assembly Building
Client: Mattersey Hall
Location: Mattersey, Near Doncaster
Mattersey Hall is an independent Bible College with over 200 students.
The new Teaching and Assembly building provides Mattersey Hall with three new classrooms, each able to accommodate 60 students for lectures, and a new Hall on the upper floor for Worship and large meetings.
A lift was installed for disabled use and this feature is used as an external feature to mark out the entrance.
The new building was positioned to form a more enclosed campus and is linked by new pathways across a lawn to the existing Classrooms and Residential Hall.
Although the site is next to the original Grade II Listed Hall, it is separated by a bank of trees and existing buildings. It was decided to design the building as a modern functional building but to choose external materials such as clay pantiles and soft red brickwork to match the local traditions.
Materials in the Assembly Hall were chosen for warmth of colour and for balanced acoustics. These contrast with cooler colours in the Classrooms and circulation spaces.
