Trigot Court, South Kirkby
Client: Wakefield & District Housing
Project: Residential Scheme
Location: South Kirkby, Wakefield
The 1.38 acre site is located within the village of South Kirkby, accessed off Wentworth Drive. The site was previously Trigot Court, a selection of two storey staggered terraced sheltered accommodation, which was demolished as part of the project.
Self Architects developed three house types: a three-bedroom, two-storey house, both as a detached and a semi-detached, a two-bedroom semi-detached bungalow and a 2-bedroom bungalow.
The houses have been designed to meet the HCA design standards.
The aim is to create a residential development that is legible and sits comfortably within the existing urban fabric and utilises the existing access.
The development will provide 20 units using a range of house types that have been used on the site to create interesting and varied street scenes, but also to strengthen the legibility of the development. The house types are used in combination to create areas with a specific identity within the development. The new dwellings facing onto Wentworth Drive reinforce and enhance the existing streetscape. Overlooking distances between proposed dwellings and existing properties were respected to ensure that there were no overlooking issues. The main site is accessed from Wentworth Drive. The flat site provides a new access to the centre of the development.
Self Architects obtained Planning and Building Regulations Approvals and provided support to WDH throughout the construction process.
