The designs of Self are helping to transform the working, leisure and home lives of communities in Rotherham.

Sheffield-based practice Self have delivered some key projects over the last ten years in Rotherham and are helping to spearhead the current regeneration of the town centre.

The £10m revamp of Westgate Chambers, designed by Self, will see the creation of a showcase commercial, retail and residential development in the heart of the town centre.

We also worked with developer SME on transforming the old mail sorting office on Domine Lane into the 1915 Bar and Bistro last year and have designed the current conversion of the fire-damaged George Wright building on Snail Hill into a boutique hotel, bar and restaurant.

“These are exciting times for Rotherham,” said Managing Director Kevin Unwin. “The significant investment in advanced manufacturing is helping to create a new identity, a new optimism, which is being reflected in the current regeneration of the town centre.”

It is also exciting times for Self, with an ambitious five-year growth strategy aimed at further cementing a growing national presence and reputation for excellent client service and high-quality design delivered using the latest techniques.

All Self projects are carried out using BIM (Building Information Modelling) and the Autodesk REVIT software which means designs can be modelled in 3D from day one.

Director Mark Barker said: “We have invested to ensure we attract and retain the very best people in high performing teams of architects, technologists, assistants and interior designers.

“Our specialist in-house team produce a variety of outputs from the BIM model including the use of head mounted displays, still images, video fly-throughs and 360-degree panoramas.

“We generate a QR code to provide our clients with a full ‘augmented reality’ experience of the design solution which not only delivers real efficiencies but brings the whole design and construction process to life.”

Alongside being an adopter practice at the cutting-edge of architectural design and delivery, Self is built on the firm foundations of strong and lasting client relationships.

We work with local, regional and national clients across the UK in multi-sectors including retail, leisure, commercial, residential and health.

Kevin added: “We have fantastic teams of commercially minded creative minds here and with ambitious growth plans. 2018 has got off to a great start and we, like the people and businesses of Rotherham, are very excited about the future.”
