The development consists of three 4 storey blocks facing Station Road and reinforcing the streetscape and providing 150 1 and 2 bed apartments. The blocks wrap the Northern edge of the site, with a central entrance into the site to the enclosed landscape and parking to the South. A refined understated palette of materials is used with a predominate buff brick and highlight dark brown brick, with vertically aligned full height windows with Juliet balconies to living rooms. Self has developed the design from planning and is delivering the project through the technical and construction stages.

Phase 1 of the scheme, with 50 apartments was completed in July 2022. Phase 2 is under construction with 100 apartments and due for completion in 2023.

The existing building consisted of three blocks of 8-storey student accommodation located around a central courtyard. This major project was split into two distinct phases. Phase 1 involved the refurbishment of the existing cluster 386 bedrooms to form 33 new studios from existing cluster flats and redundant staff rooms.

Phase 2 was a new build wing that provides an additional 33 studio rooms. A new common room was created in redundant storage space to provide additional amenity areas. The external façade of the building was re-clad using new powder coated aluminium cladding panels.

An HQ office and production facility designed to achieve BREEAM Outstanding and Net Zero in use.

The production and storage is a highly insulated flexible 2 storey box, with ribbon windows, roof lights and 800m2 of PV’s. A service zone sits in front, with cores, toilets, lockers & tea points, linked by a naturally lit corridor. Projecting forward is a 3 storey wing of offices at upper level, with vertical fin shading and a recessed canteen below. A pod of 2 floors of meeting rooms is contained in a frame sitting above the recessed reception.

The front building is in a CLT/steel hybrid structure with natural ventilation. A mixed mode system of natural ventilation and passive cooling is to be used. Free cooling chillers, process air and water recovery, rainwater recovery, battery storage and PV’s are all to utilised to achieve Net Zero.

Self Architect’s design for a large hotel extension and luxury spa located in the beautiful surrounds on the edge of the Peak District, has achieved planning approval in this sensitive location. This project continues Self’s successful relationship with the client, having completed six earlier projects for the hotel, after working on the original hotel development several years ago.

The project comprises the construction of a new 2.5-storey hotel wing containing 29 luxury bedrooms, a 2-storey luxury spa treatment suite and with associated landscaping works. The design respects its context of the Peak District, with its vernacular use of robust ashlar stone walls, slate overhanging roofs and exposed timber and adds to the existing assembly of buildings framing the pond.

Self have developed a health and living driven masterplan for Tatton Park and the neighbouring bus garage site. Tatton Recreation Ground, the existing park, is a high-value but low-quality environment, that is unattractive in its present form. There is also a health need for the area of a GP Surgery and an assisted living flats. Self developed a series of options with the Council to address the need for improvements to Tatton Park and the health need. Working closely with the team at Chorley Borough Council, we developed a series of options to address the urgent need for improvements to Tatton Park along with the health need of the local area for a GP Surgery and an Assisted Living unit.

The park is reborn via removing the dominating large hard standing and spitting the park into different zones of an open field, quiet area, paved square, MUGA and play area. The bowling green and car park are retained, with the community centre moving into the main building. A curved terrace of 25 new houses edges the park to the NW. The 3 storey building fully occupies the bus garage site, with 2 courtyards and an L wing. The 62 assisted living apartments occupy the upper levels and the North of the ground level. The Southern part of the ground floor contains the new community centre and GP practice with a pharmacy.

Knowle House is a residential apartment scheme near central Sheffield consisting of two main buildings. Designed to respond to the challenging changes in level across the site and the existing surrounding properties, the main building is envisaged as two distinct elements connected by a lower plinth.

The scheme provides a total of 83 apartments in a variety of one, two and three bedroom formats. A unique aspect of the scheme is the extensive shared resident amenity space, consisting of a series of landscaped and play spaces. The result is an urban oasis that has achieved a 70% Biodiversity Net Gain within the site footprint.
